Oscailt oifigiúil an seomra teic

Gaelscoil Leads Techie Learning.

Friday 4th February 2011 saw the official opening of the new Seomra Teic – the School’s new Computer Room in Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan. The school hosted a celebration of the progress made in developing the facilities in educational technology. As well as Interactive Whiteboards in each classroom and the classroom computers, the Gaelscoil now has a new room with 14 computers which are fully networked and specially equipped with headphones, webcams and a printer designed for multimedia applications and projects.

All children from Junior Infants to Rang a 6 are already enjoying the benefits of this investment and are engaging in many stimulating projects involving educational software programmes covering all aspects of the curriculum and programmes such as Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Publisher as well as Google Maps, Google Earth and Skype for multimedia communication.

The ribbon was cut by Mark O’Súilleabháin, Cathaoirleach, Coiste na dTuismitheoirí and Adam de Grás, dalta Rang a 6, atá tógtha go mór le ríomhairí, agus Múinteoir Orla Mhic Chonnmara, who led the project.

A large group of parents visited the school and enjoyed a display of the diverse range of information technology projects engaged in by the pupils at Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan.

Príomhoide Inez Uí Éanáin attributed the success of the project and the school’s progress, to the foresight of the Board of Management, the commitment of the parents, led by the Coiste na dTuismitheoirí, the enthusiastic, hard-working school staff, and the positive spirit of the entire school community.

Over the next few weeks, Coiste na dTuismitheoirí will be commencing typing classes with the children, and there will also be an Internet Safety Awareness evening on Tuesday February 15th at the school, to equip parents with the necessary information to safeguard their children’s use of computers and the Internet.
